This position funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation will be integrated within a large Research Consortium exploring the Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) of wheat. The central aim of this project is to demonstrate the potential of BNI at multi-scales (lab to field scale) across a range of pedo-climatic conditions. The research spans laboratory, glasshouse and field experiments exploring the link between microbial activity, nitrogen cycling and plant performance, with careful monitoring of physicochemical conditions. The successful applicant will be responsible for the planning, design, and execution of the research programme.
The successful candidate will have a relevant PhD in environmental microbiology with evidence of multidisciplinary research spanning molecular and microbial research areas. They should also be an effective communicator and team worker with a scientific track record with good scientific publications. Applicants must have experience in microbial ecology analysis with expertise in plant-microbe interaction, while knowledge of BNI or nitrification would be desirable. The successful candidate will also be a hands-on researcher capable of independently setting up and monitoring highly controlled experiments requiring microbial growth and activity measurements through microbial cultivation and molecular analyses. In addition, we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated, and creative postdoctoral fellow researcher.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 Salary Scale, £37,999- £45,163 per annum with placement according to qualifications and experience.
Type of contract: Full-time, funding limited until 20th May 2028
