A 5-year post-doctoral post to support the goals of the Engineering Biology hub at the Roslin Institute.
The Opportunity:
Engineering Biology is defined as “the design and fabrication of biological components, systems, and materials from biological elements for a useful purpose” and was identified as 1 of 7 technologies of national strength and opportunity in the UK Innovation Strategy in 2021. Food security is one of four key pillars of the Engineering Biology strategy. As pioneers in genetic engineering and reproductive technology in farmed animals, The Roslin Institute is a leader in innovation in Agri-Tech, with Engineering Biology playing a central role.
As part of these efforts, an Engineering Biology hub has been established at the Institute, to leverage the existing expertise, develop new technologies and advance leading projects in the Agri-Tech space. We are looking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to support the goals of the hub through development of new genome editing technologies and applying those to projects involving the advancement of precision editing in farmed animals. This will include development and validation of new editing technologies, development of novel cell-based models of whole animal phenotypes and developing platforms for high-throughput phenotypic analysis. Specifically, this post will leverage cutting edge technology developed in Prof Mike McGrew’s group, to advance multiplex knock-out editing in chicken stem cells and cell lines.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in molecular biology with experience in genome editing technology desirable. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn cutting edge technologies in a dynamic, exciting and supportive environment working at the forefront of Agritech research.
