The School of Natural Sciences is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor with an excellent research record in biodiversity and population genomics. This Assistant Professor role will provide for research and teaching expertise in comparative genomics across animal groups, enhancing current work on evolution, including adaptations such as disease mechanisms and resistance, and biodiversity monitoring through development of an independent research programme at the interface of all the constituent disciplines within the School of Natural Sciences (that is, Botany, Geography, Geology and Zoology).
As a fundamental aspect of E3 teaching and research, we aim to build on a track record of excellence in this field. Genetic and genomic tools are increasingly used to extend the spatial and temporal extent of biodiversity studies and the precision of monitoring approaches. New applications include environmental DNA (eDNA) as a monitoring tool in the present and recent past, research of hard-to-sample groups (e.g. rare and/or endangered species), population genetic diversity management, phylogenomics, de-extinction approaches, and ancient DNA, establishing historical baselines from, for example, macro-genomics and sediment archives. Candidates with successful research achievements and potential in field/lab environments and/or specific expertise in the broad areas of biodiversity and population genomics are invited to apply. Areas of expertise may include—but are certainly not limited to—comparative genomics, evolutionary biodiversity studies and advanced and innovative computational analysis via bioinformatic data analyses of high throughput DNA or RNA sequencing data sets.
Post Status Tenure Track – This position is Tenure Track positions which is 5-years in the first instance, permanency is subject to satisfying the tenure requirements.
