Applications are invited for the post of a Senior Research Fellow in the Low Temperature Group in the department of Physics at Royal Holloway, University of London.

This will be a key role in the project “Silencing the noise in quantum circuits by a Quantum fluid Bath – SQuBa”, a joint project between the Quantum Technology Department at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the Centre for Advanced Quantum Science and Technology at Royal Holloway University of London. This project, funded by EPSRC (EP/Y022627/1), is founded on an internationally unique combination of interdisciplinary expertise in superconducting quantum techology, benchmarking of qubits, study of decoherence sources in such devices, quantum fluids and ultra-low temperature technology.

The candidate will join a team of seven investigators at Royal Holloway, where this post will be based, and RHUL/NPL joint PhD students. Royal Holloway is a partner in the Oxford-led QCI3 Quantum Hub. We are collaborating with the following project partners: SQMS Quantum Center (Fermilab); Chalmers University, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology; University of Glasgow, Louisiana State University, Google Quantum AI, Oxford Instruments.

You will have prior experience in low temperature technology, including dilution refrigeration, qubit manipulation and readout, and associated rf technology. You will have computer programming skills, and experience of simulation packages. You will be a good communicator and the ability to work in a collaborative team, with national and international partners.

Several posts are available, at different grades and for different durations. This post is fixed for 2 years from 1st May 2025 and is based in Egham, Surrey where the University is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
