Job Summary 

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in Design and Prototyping of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces and Metasurfaces position in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London

The Research Associate will conduct original research in RF design, modeling, and prototyping of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces in 6G and beyond as part of the EPSRC funded project “Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces 2.0 for 6G: Beyond Diagonal Phase Shift Matrices”, in partnership with The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Interdigital, and Viavi Solutions. The Research Associate will design and prototype “beyond diagonal reconfigurable intelligent surfaces” (BD-RIS) using reconfigurable impedance networks and/or nonlocal metasurfaces, identify the full potential benefits of BD-RIS for next generation wireless networks, and assess the feasibility of BD-RIS.

The Research Associate will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.

Other aspects of the post include undertaking project management, collaborating with PhD students and Research Associates, as well as academic and industry partners, and/or supervising multi-disciplinary teams.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To take initiatives in the planning of research
  • To direct the work of small research teams
  • To closely follow and contribute to the progress of the project and cooperate with other researchers
  • To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To write reports for submission to research sponsors
  • To contribute to the timely production of project deliverables
  • To present findings to colleagues and at conferences
  • To submit publications to refereed journals

Essential requirements

Education

  • Research Associate: Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in RF design, modelling and prototyping of radio systems, intelligent surfaces, and/or metasurfaces and a significant publication track record.
  • Research Assistant: Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in RF design, modelling, and prototyping of radio systems and a significant publication track record

Experience

  • Experience within a research environment
  • Experience of writing scientific publications in top conferences or journals
  • Experience of writing concise and pertinent reports

*Candidates who have not yet been awarded their PhD will initially be appointed at the Research Assistant level within the salary range £ 43,003- £ 46,297per annum.
