Faculty / Directorate
Home to four specialist schools - Leicester School of Allied Health Sciences, Applied Social Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, and Leicester School of Pharmacy – the Faculty has a long tradition of providing high quality education and development to professionals who make a significant difference to lives, health, wellbeing, communities and society. The dedicated facilities are designed to replicate current practice and feature industry-standard equipment, enabling staff and students to undertake life changing projects to improve health and social care.
Role
The primary role will be to prepare practical classes taking place within designated specialist teaching laboratories for staff and students. This will include maintaining and providing training, practical assistance and advice in the use of specialist equipment and techniques, primarily supporting Biochemistry and Forensics, amongst other more common laboratory equipment.
The Senior Technician will have oversight of all laboratory activities (including H&S, developing risk assessments and COSHH in line with University Policy) and delegate appropriate tasks to their team. Under the direction of the Team Leader, the post holder will line manage Technicians, supervising attendance, holidays, sickness, and encouraging learning and development.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a highly organised and motivated individual who has previous leadership experience or has been working towards managing a laboratory space and Technicians. A commitment to continuous improvement of working practices and the desire to provide a full technical service to staff and students within the Schools of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences is an essential.
The post holder will hold strong interpersonal skills with the ability to promote and support new equipment and technology. Knowledge or experience of specialist biochemistry and forensic equipment is desirable as is the ability to learn and improve their technical expertise in current and future planned equipment. Staff development opportunities will be considered on the completion of a successful probationary period. The post holder will also be flexible and may be required to provide support in other teaching areas within the faculty as required.
