Faculty / Directorate
The Corporate Services Directorate plays a vital role in ensuring the university operates effectively, with strong leadership and governance structures that uphold our values and strategic ambitions. Within this framework, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) is a key leadership position, reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, and working alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Planning, Research and Innovation to serve as joint deputies to enhance academic excellence, student success, and institutional reputation. This role provides strategic oversight of the education and student experience portfolio, leading transformational initiatives that enhance pedagogy, student engagement, and graduate outcomes.
Role
As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience), you will provide strategic leadership for DMU’s education portfolio, overseeing the development of innovative teaching practices and ensuring an outstanding student experience. You will drive the delivery of our ‘Learning for Life’ vision, working closely with faculty deans and the Education Academy to create a research-informed, inclusive, and industry-relevant curriculum. Enhancing student success will be at the heart of your role, with a focus on retention, progression, and employability, as well as ensuring the university meets all regulatory standards and prepares for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). You will play a leading role in the Pedagogy of the Future project, driving digital learning innovation and shaping the next phase of DMU’s teaching excellence. As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will also represent the Vice-Chancellor as required and contribute to cross-campus strategic initiatives.
This role offers a competitive salary, reflecting your skills and experience.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an exceptional academic leader with significant experience at the senior leadership level, ideally as a Pro Vice-Chancellor or equivalent. You will have a strong track record of driving educational excellence, leading large-scale strategic initiatives, and improving student experience and outcomes. Your ability to inspire and influence a wide range of stakeholders—including students, staff, and external partners—will be critical to your success in this role. You will be passionate about innovation in teaching and learning, with a deep understanding of how digital education can enhance student experience and academic success. A commitment to inclusivity, equality, and student-centred education is essential, as is a strong understanding of higher education policy and regulatory requirements. As a collaborative and visionary leader, you will have the strategic insight, academic credibility, and professional integrity to shape the future of education and student experience at DMU.
