The Organic Research Centre is the UK’s leading independent research centre focusing on the development and promotion of sustainable, agroecological solutions to food, farming and environmental issues. ORC is a registered charity with ca. 20 staff and funded primarily by project grants and contracts, from government, EU and foundation sources, as well as voluntary donations.
We are looking to appoint an Assistant Researcher – Crops & Agronomy (G6) on a 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension. The role involves supporting our research across a range of existing and new projects including the collection of data from the field, literature and focus groups. Active areas of research include organic plant breeding and variety testing as well as organic matter management, composting systems, and fertiliser efficiency, working across organic, regenerative and conventional farms. You will:
Due to the geography of our field sites, we are particularly seeking someone based in central or southern England or western midlands but will consider outstanding candidates wishing to be home-based in other parts of the country. This ideal candidate would be MSc qualified with a career goal to work as a researcher. The role is available for immediate start.
If you are methodical with good attention to detail and wish to work in the field of applied agricultural research then this could be the job for you. Much of ORC’s research takes place over a wide geographical spread so you need to be willing to travel and spend days in the field. You will have the opportunity to gain experience of the whole research process whilst working closely with farmers, and you will make a contribution to bridging the gap between science and practice.
We look forward to receiving your application, which must be made using the ORC application form. Further details can be downloaded from the Organic Research Centre website (www.organicresearchcentre.com).
The closing date for applications is 17.00 on Friday 14th March 2025. Interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams in the week commencing 24th March 2025.
