Are you an experienced molecular biologist with an interest and skills in genetic research and project management? Do you thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment? Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is seeking a Technical Project Manager (Functional Genetics) to support and lead groundbreaking research in mosquito genetics and vector control strategies.

Working closely with the Head of Department for Vector Biology, Professor Tony Nolan, the successful candidate will play a key role in the operational and scientific management of the research group, ensuring smooth running of projects and support the group’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the day-to-day research activities and laboratory operations, including resource allocation and experimental workflows
  • Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of technical and scientific challenges
  • Organise and chair lab meetings, ensuring effective communication and coordination of the team
  • Provide updates on project progress, challenges, and opportunities for innovation
  • Horizon scan for new funding opportunities, assist in drafting and reviewing funding proposals, ensuring proper attribution for contributions
  • Contributing to grant writing and funding proposals
  • Mentoring and training lab members in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and genetics
  • Supporting manuscript preparation and presenting findings at conferences
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and maintaining SOPs

The successful candidate:

We are looking for an organised and proactive individual with strong scientific expertise and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a closely related discipline
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology techniques, including cloning of genetic constructs
  • Strong grant writing, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience mentoring and training team members in laboratory practices
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in preparing scientific manuscripts and presenting research

Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and approaches and experience in mosquito biology, genetics and genome editing would also be highly advantageous for this position.
