Position: Assistant Professor in Digital Governance and Sustainability (Effective August 2025)

Position Summary

KIMEP University’s College of Social Sciences, Department of Public Administration, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor specializing in Digital Governance and Sustainability. This is a three-year, full-time academic appointment starting in August 2025, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, scholarly activities, student advising, field liaison, and university service. 

We seek a dedicated educator and researcher who is actively engaged in innovative research and enthusiastic about teaching bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and forward-thinking scholar who brings fresh perspectives to theory, research, and practice in digital governance, urban transformation, and sustainability. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in AI applications in governance, digital solutions for sustainable urban development, climate resilience, urban environmental policies, and data-driven decision-making in urban governance. 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements 

• Ph.D. in Public Administration, Digital Governance, Urban Sustainability, or a closely related field from an internationally recognized and accredited university.
• Ideally at least 1–3 years of teaching experience in reputable universities.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level, including experience with innovative teaching methods.
• Research portfolio with publications in peer-reviewed journals and ongoing research engagement.
• Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research and collaborations.
• Extensive professional experience in relevant fields.
• Practical engagement with public institutions, city governments, or international organizations. 

Preferred Areas of Specialization

In addition to Digital Governance and Sustainability, expertise in at least two of the following areas is highly desirable:

• Artificial Intelligence & Public Administration – AI applications in governance and urban management.
• Smart Cities and Urban Innovation – Digital solutions for sustainable urban development.
• Environmental Policy and Urban Sustainability – Climate resilience and urban environmental policies.
• Public Data Science and Policy Analytics – Data-driven decision-making in urban governance. 

Compensation

• Competitive salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• After-tax salary compares favorably with net salaries in Western countries based on purchasing power.
• Limited on-campus housing available for rent, with assistance provided for finding off-campus accommodation.
• Benefits package includes basic healthcare insurance, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and a one-time relocation allowance.
• New faculty members receive a reduced teaching load in the first semester.
• Summer paid teaching opportunities are available.
• Tax deduction: 10% personal income tax as per the Laws of Kazakhstan.

About the College of Social Sciences

The College of Social Sciences (CSS) consists of approximately twenty full-time faculty members and ten adjunct faculty, supported by a dedicated administrative team. Apart from the Department of Public Administration, the College includes the departments of Media and Communications, International Relations and Regional Studies, and Economics.
