Do you have a strong background in inorganic chemistry and/or geochemistry that can be transferable to study cementitious materials produced from clay resources? Are you familiarised with the design, characterisation and testing of cementitious, ceramic and/or masonry products?  Are you motivated to work across academia and industry? The University of Bath has an excellent opportunity for you to ‘fast-track’ your career in industry by leading a high-profile, strategically important project to completion. Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), you will work in partnership with Wienerberger Ltd to develop sustainable masonry products applying inorganic polymer technology, with the aim to contribute to their ambitions net-zero goals.

This is an ideal position for a driven, hard-working and enthusiastic individual with an interest in applied research with potential for significant impact in decarbonising future construction products.

About the role

You will be tasked with working as part of a team that embeds knowledge within Wienerberger Ltd allowing the company to create different construction products (e.g. tiles, bricks, blocks) applying different cementitious materials production technologies, with the goal of reducing the carbon output of existing products, and opening further market opportunities for Wienerberger. As part of your responsibilities, you will undertake market and regulatory analysis, carry out feasibility studies, and develop novel construction materials formulations and manufacturing protocols in partnership with a first class academic and company team.

Holding a doctoral degree (or close to completion) or have equivalent high level research experience in Materials, Chemical or Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, or a closely allied discipline, you will have a good experience in clay-based cementitious materials, their design, characterisation and testing. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be willing to learn and collaborate with a vibrant and dynamic team of researchers across the University of Bath and Wienerberger Ltd. 

As a KTP Associate you will be the project lead, managing your own workload to ensure outputs, including leading on meetings. You will also acquire new skills in strategic leadership that can help to super-charge your career.
