The University of Hertfordshire is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and proactive Student Recruitment Analyst to join our Insight Team to support the University power the potential of our people and achieve its strategic goals.

The role sits within the Insight team, and directly services the Student Marketing and Communications team by providing insight that helps inform decisions, improve student recruitment and boost audience engagement. The Insight team is a strategic asset for the university with the goal of shifting culture to an evidence-led approach to decision making. In short, the Insight team connects our colleagues to our audiences, to inspire change.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Student Recruitment Analyst plays a critical role in student recruitment and retention, driving prospects through the funnel to registration and beyond. As a member of the Insight team, your key responsibility will not only be to report on existing trends and ongoing recruitment performance, but to also identify and evaluate opportunities. To achieve this, you would be expected to be able to interpret and convert large complex data sets, using a range of methods and data transformation tools, create data visualisation, typically in Tableau and communicate key findings.

Most commonly, this would involve analysing data published by UCAS, HESA or our own admissions data. Using historical data and trends analysis, you will also be asked to create forecasts and models on university applications and acceptances and summarise findings in easily digestible reports to inform Departmental or University policy and decision-making.

The Student Recruitment Analyst would additionally undertake bespoke research and analyses in response to requests from the recruitment team.

Skills and experience required

Demonstrable business analysis experience. We are looking for an analyst who is comfortable with constructively challenging assumptions and traditional views driven by actionable insight. Demonstrable experience of using data visualisation software e.g. Tableau, Qlikview and Power BI to help uncover the stories behind the data. It would be desirable to have experience of using specialist analytical and reporting software or advanced functionality of Microsoft Excel, employing a range of practices to analyse and explain complex data sets.

Qualifications required

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification) or equivalent experience, ideally in a numerical subject such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or similar; or equivalent proven experience
