About the Role
A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in Prof. Christian Nielsen’s group (https://nielsen-lab.com/) to work on a research project funded by the Leverhulme Trust entitled “Deliberate imperfection: topological design of defects within graphene” in collaboration with colleagues at University of Warwick and University of Nottingham.
The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months, with an expected start date of 01 May 2025 or shortly thereafter.
About You
The ideal candidate for this position should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in organic chemistry or a closely related field and be able to work effectively, independently and sociably within a team. Experience in synthesis and purification of pi-conjugated materials and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is essential. Self-motivation, the ability to interact confidently within an interdisciplinary research area and excellent research management and presentation skills are essential.
About the Project
The successful candidate will design and synthesise polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with non-alternant topologies. They will also be required to analyse the experimental data and report it in the form of conference presentations and research papers. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team and interact closely with computational and experimental collaborators throughout the duration of the project.
