Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 24th February 2025

Job Ref: REG55025

The University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Pre 16 Student Recruitment Outreach Officer to join its Widening Participation and Outreach team. This is a varied and rewarding role that combines programme and event planning with front-line delivery and project work.

As a Pre 16 Student Recruitment Outreach Officer, you will support the delivery of the University of Nottingham’s recruitment and widening participation strategies to support aspirations and attract prospective students to the University. This will include building and maintaining relationships with schools and academies, delivering and assisting in the development and delivery of Pre 16 programmes (including Ambition Nottingham), and supporting wider team projects and initiatives. You will primarily work with Pre-16 secondary school students.

As the successful candidate, you should be a motivated individual with experience of working with, and the ability to motivate and engage, young people, preferably in a classroom setting. You will have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, both written and verbal. This will include the ability to engage with a wide range of learners, as well as their families and teachers, about Higher Education. You will be experienced in delivering presentations and organising events of different scales for varied audiences.

You will require the ability to build and develop a strong rapport with academic staff, support colleagues and Student Ambassadors from across the University and partner organisations. In addition, you will be a strong team player, have excellent IT skills and have the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload, proactively working under pressure to meet deadlines.

In the Widening Participation and Outreach team, our outreach work is predominately with groups that are under-represented in Higher Education to support aspirations and remove preconceived barriers to continuous learning. Our wider team delivers sessions to primary and secondary-aged children, post 16 learners, and mature students, to provide insight into University life and demonstrate the benefits of Higher Education.

As part of the team, you will be invited to collaborate with colleagues on activities such as Open Days, Summer Schools and UCAS exhibitions; and contribute towards our collaborative working groups which focus on important topics such as equality, diversity, inclusivity, and the environment.

This full-time (36.25 hour per week), permanent position is based in the Widening Participation and Outreach Team at the King's Meadow Campus, but involves frequent travel to schools, academies and other venues around the East Midlands region. Some of these venues are rural and sometimes quite remote; therefore, you must have a full driving licence, access to your own transport and business insurance. Student Recruitment Outreach Officers are expected to undertake some occasional evening and weekend work.

The department supports hybrid working with arrangements agreed locally. In practice this means the team balances the working week with some time spent on campus or delivering in schools, and some time spent working from home to support flexibility, recognising that individuals and teams can be effective across different working environments.
