About the Role
We are seeking an experienced researcher to provide strategic leadership in the new Research Centre for the Creative Industries (RCCI). With a focus on harnessing the potential of the latest digital technologies, the Centre brings together a diverse team of interdisciplinary researchers across disciplines spanning fine art, graphic design, illustration, animation, photography, filmmaking, gaming, visual effects and design for stage and screen, exploring the application and impact of digital technologies in areas such as the metaverse, virtual/augmented/ mixed reality and immersive experiences.
RCCI builds on strong partnerships with leading local cultural institutions and creative digital industries within Nottingham’s vibrant creative and digital ecosystem. Through relationships with organisations such as Backlit, Nottingham Contemporary, Primary, and BEAM, RCCI aspires to connect research with cultural activities, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary projects, exhibitions, and public engagement. These partnerships provide a foundation for experimentation and innovation, supporting researchers and practitioners in exploring the potential of digital creativity.
RCCI seeks to leverage the CDI Collective network, bringing together over 240 creative and digital businesses in the Nottingham area. This network offers opportunities to collaborate across fields including gaming, animation, digital marketing, and immersive media. These partnerships open pathways for knowledge exchange, consultancy, student engagement, ensuring that research is both impactful and industry-relevant.
You will play a key role in further developing our inclusive and diverse research culture, mentoring early career colleagues, facilitating interdisciplinary and collaborative research, growing research income and enhancing the quality of a wide variety of research outputs.

You will have the enthusiasm and vision to lead the growth of new areas of research with a track record of team building and inspiring and supporting postgraduate researchers and colleagues. As a recognised leader in your field, you will have or be developing an international profile as a research leader.

About the School
In 2024 we launched our new department of Design and Digital Arts (D&DA) providing new and exciting opportunities by bringing together art, design, digital technologies and business within a landmark new building officially opened November 2024. The new building accommodates a range of industry standard creative technology spaces that support our ambition to offer real world work-like experiences with the introduction of facilities including virtual production studio, green screen studio, foley recording and mixing studio, motion capture suite and innovation spaces where staff and students can explore the latest creative technologies. It enables D&DA to expand its creative industries offer with the introduction of new curricula in disciplines such as Film & TV Production, VFX, Games Art & Design and Motion Graphics together with our well-established strengths in wide range of art and design practices, including Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation, Filmmaking, Design for Film & TV, Design for Theatre and Live Performance, Costume Design and Fine Art.
