This is an excellent opportunity that will enable a recent PhD graduate or Early Career Researcher to gain experience in a thriving cultural and research institution, as well as the opportunity to develop their own research portfolio in a supportive and well-established research environment.  We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community and under-represented groups.

The successful candidate will be a pro-active and knowledgeable postdoctoral researcher, whose expertise in the histories of sculpture will complement that of the Research Team at the Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, and will form a key element of our public programmes. The candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of research, writing and communication skills, and will be comfortable working both as part of the Research Team and independently. A current institutional affiliation is not necessary for the post.

The candidate will be expected to deliver a specific research project within the two year term, relating to the post-holder’s area of specialism, which we anticipate will form part of the Henry Moore Studio & Gardens’ public programme.  We are looking for proposals with a specific focus on aspects of the life and work of Henry Moore or in which the study of Moore is a significant component.  We encourage applications from applicants working on new and under-represented perspectives on Moore’s work (which includes sculpture, drawings, prints, textiles) or archive, and in related areas such as his reception, influence, exhibition histories and global contexts.   The candidate will be based within the Research Team in the Curatorial Department, and will contribute to the development and delivery of our public programme of exhibitions, lectures, conferences and seminars. The candidate will have full use of the resources available in the on site Henry Moore Archive, access to the Foundation’s collection and support of the wider Collections and Programmes team.

Our successful candidate will have completed or be due to submit a PhD in Art History or a related subject.  They will have a detailed knowledge of sculpture and its histories and will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.  They will have excellent organisation and communication skills and a good level of IT skills.  They will be able to organise their workload and remain calm under pressure.

If you are excited by this opportunity and, having read the job specification, you have the skills and experience to meet the requirements of the role, we would be pleased to receive the following from you:

  • A completed application form
  • A 500 word research proposal summary

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit a complete research proposal of around 1,500 words comprising a 1000 word research proposal and a 500 word timeline and strategy.

A recruitment pack and application form are available on our website via the 'Apply' button above, where further information can be found about the Henry Moore Foundation.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: 10.00am, Monday 31 March 2025

Shortlisted applicants will be asked to submit a complete research proposal by Tuesday 6 May 2025

INTERVIEWS:  Thursday 22 May 2025 at the Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Perry Green, Much Hadham
