Job description:

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with an interest in the biochemical regulation of lipid kinases during phagocytic killing of diverse microbes. You will use supported lipid bilayers to investigate the enzymatic activity of recombinant multimeric lipid kinase protein complexes and how these are regulated. This is a highly cross disciplinary project, and you will join the lab of Hannes Maib in the School of Biosciences with close ties to the labs of Jason King and Steve Renshaw. You will have A PhD (or equivalent experience) in biochemistry, cell biology or a related field along with experience in biochemistry and protein reconstitution using bacterial and/or eukaryotic expression systems. Experience in the use and maintenance of chromatography systems (AKTA) is also essential.

This is post is funded by a Wellcome Trust Discovery grant between the labs of Jason King, Steve Renshaw, Clare Muir and Hannes Maib. The overarching aim is to understand lipid kinase signalling during phagocytic processing in response to different microbial challenges. In total there will be three separate PDRA positions, split across the different investigators. Even though you will focus on the biochemical regulation of lipid kinases, you are expected to work in close collaboration with the other researchers on this project. The lab of Jason King will work on phagocytic processing using cell biological approaches while Steve Renshaw and Clair Muir will be using a zebrafish model of infection. As such you will be expected to work closely with other researchers spanning different disciplines and model systems. You will additionally benefit from the possibility to learn these different techniques yourself. Therefore, this post will favour someone with the ability to work closely with scientists from different fields.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
