We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to join the Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise as a University Practitioner. You will deliver an inspirational learning experience to our undergraduate learners alongside your practice as a Speech and Language Therapist.
The Department currently offers a wide range of excellent educational provision across eight allied health professions, midwifery, public health and sport. It’s home to a large number of apprenticeships, pre-registration and post-graduate courses.
The University of Huddersfield is a thriving university, and our excellent facilities are continuing to expand with state-of-the art teaching, research and clinical facilities on the National Health Innovation Campus.
We have a diverse student body and work closely with our public partnership group, health and social care, and education partners.
This role is open to Speech and Language Therapists who are interested in educating the future workforce. You will work with experienced academic and professional services colleagues to develop and facilitate learners’ knowledge, skills and professional attributes on a course that is contemporary, future-looking and enables graduates to meet the challenges of service users and service needs. Commitment to an innovative student-centred learning experience is essential.
You will be currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Speech and Language Therapist. With a Master's degree in a relevant subject or equivalent (or ability to complete this within 12 months of taking up the role), you will be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (or be willing to work towards this within 12 months of appointment).
You will bring subject and practice expertise in contemporary speech and language therapy. We would particularly welcome applications from Speech and Language Therapists with training and experience in hearing loss and/or dysphagia.
The post requires recent experience of teaching speech and language therapy within a clinical or higher education setting.
This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.
As a Practitioner, we expect you to be actively engaged in practice in addition to your role at the University. This can be either through paid employment with another employer, paid consultancy or freelance work.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Employer, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.
Informal enquiries about the role are welcome to Dr Jayne Samples.
