The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath invites applications for a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) to join the research group Numerical Analysis and Data Science.
About the role
The appointee will be expected to deliver a high-quality research programme, and to develop and submit competitive applications for external funding.
The appointee is expected to teach units related to numerical analysis, machine learning, and programming.
About you
The candidate should contribute to existing strengths in linear algebra, approximation theory, numerical solution of differential equations, inverse problems, scientific computing, uncertainty quantification, and mathematics of machine learning, or bring complementary strengths in computational mathematics or mathematical aspects of data science.
Candidates should also be strongly interested in pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervising graduate students.
About us
The Department of Mathematical Sciences has over 70 academic staff from all areas of Mathematics.
Our Department emphasises the unity of mathematics and there are strong interactions between research groups, especially with Statistics, Numerical Analysis, and Applied Mathematics, as well as a wide variety of interdisciplinary research projects and industrial collaborations.
Research and visibility are enhanced by Maths4DL. In addition, the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI) drives a range of interdisciplinary and industrial collaborations, broadening the reach of mathematical sciences across the University and outside academia.
These activities are supported by the Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics at Bath (SAMBa), which currently has over 70 PhD students and an annual intake of 10-20 research students.
The University is situated in the city of Bath, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provides for a high quality of life, with good transport links to the rest of the UK and fast connections to Bristol and London.
