The Infrastructure and Operations team within our IT & Digital Directorate is expanding!
We are hiring a Senior Database Engineer to become part of our collaborative culture, diverse teams, and well-connected community. Department & Team Overview
The Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure (HCI) team is part of the University's IT & Digital pillar. The Database team, within HCI, works closely with the Servers & Storage and Identity & Access Management teams to ensure seamless access to University systems.
Role Overview
The Senior Database Engineer role is ideal for those with expertise in Oracle, SQL, and MySQL. The key responsibilities include:
• Ensuring database security and availability while modernizing infrastructure through automation and migrations.
• Providing technical support, triaging queries via a ticketing system, phone, and email.
• Maintaining compliance and security standards across the database estate.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & Leadership
• Act as a technical authority for database systems.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers.
• Proactively monitor infrastructure to prevent incidents.
• Keep documentation updated and well-maintained.
• Lead infrastructure design, security, and disaster recovery (DR) planning.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
• Expertise in Oracle, SQL, MySQL, AIX, and Azure SQL.
• Experience with on-premises & cloud environments.
• Ability to deploy monitoring and configuration tools.
• Strong understanding of security frameworks and compliance.
• Experience in database lifecycle management and infrastructure enhancements.
Desirable:
• Experience with SQL Server and Oracle migrations to Azure native services.
