Full Professor of Military Strategy and Technology (GN)
The Hertie School is recruiting an exceptional scholar to fill a vacancy in Military Strategy and Technology. The position is full-time. We expect as a starting date summer 2025.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in History, Political Science or International Relations, alongside an excellent record in research and teaching. An ideal candidate will be in the position to teach classes on military operations, military technology, military strategy and defence-industrial production; have an outstanding record of publications in the most selective journals, with demonstrated academic and policy impact; and have a proven record in carrying out both qualitative and quantitative research. Particularly welcome to apply are applicants with a track record of interdisciplinary research who can teach and write on technical topics, including sensing technologies and signal processing in war, modern production methods such as advances in material sciences and mechanical engineering, as well as technological competition in both the commercial and the defence industry. Past collaborations with engineers and scientists are considered a plus.
Candidates are expected to show full commitment to working in an interdisciplinary, international environment with English as the language of instruction and operation. The professor will initially be on a three-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of renewal. If the position is renewed, a tenure review would be expected under the next contract.
