About us
The Research Department of Neurodegenerative Disease is recognised as one of the foremost international centres for the study of dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Based in the department is the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC), a hub for clinical research into various forms of dementia. Our work focuses on identifying and understanding the disease processes that cause dementia, the factors that influence these disease processes, and how best to support people with dementia and their families.
About the role
We are a seeking a Research Assistant to join a research programme dedicated to the detailed characterisation of genetic frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The programme aims to develop new clinical trials in this important condition.
You will participate in the Genetic FTD Initiative (GENFI) study and the wider FTD Prevention Initiative (FPI) study to help build the evidence base for a cross-centre, academic-led research trial, as well as initiate such a trial. Your tasks will include ensuring data is collected accurately with appropriate quality control and managing the database. Clinical, cognitive, imaging, and biomarker data will then be curated and analysed to provide the necessary evidence for trials. You will also assist with participant testing, including digital and cognitive assessments.
An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.
The role is available from 01 March 2025 and funded by the Milken Foundation until 28 February 2026 in the first instance.
This role is eligible for hybrid working. You are expected to spend between 20-80% of your working hours on campus, depending on research requirements, and work remotely the rest of the time.
About you
You will have a BSc in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related subject, along with a solid working knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases, including biomarkers. Essential experience includes database management, in testing cognitive and digital biomarkers in individuals with dementia, working with participants or patients in a clinical research or healthcare setting, and a strong understanding of the underlying causes of FTD.
