RCSI is seeking to appoint its next innovative leader to the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Health Psychology. This post is a permanent professorial appointment within RCSI. The appointee will report to the Head of the School of Population Health or nominee. 

This critical role drives the ongoing innovation and delivery of the undergraduate and graduate teaching programmes of RCSI. It also provides a unique platform for excellence in research in Health Psychology. 

Specific Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Leading a team of academic and professional colleagues in the Department to deliver exceptional education, research and service activities, bringing the best of the discipline of Health Psychology to the fore as appropriate.
  • Working with the School of Population Health leadership team to deliver on an integrated programme of activities that place the School of Population Health in a premier position as thought leaders, educators, researchers and health policy informants.
  • Driving increased engagement and collaboration with clinical partners - in particular within the RCSI teaching hospitals and HSE Dublin and North- East Regional Health Authority - to support the development of education and research activities between the School and clinical partners. 

Research

  • Securing funding, and supporting Department staff to do same, to deliver research programmes on the broad theme of Population Health, through postgraduate students and other research staff, with publications in journals of high quality and policy impact.
  • Growing and expanding our impact and reputation in research, building on our success to date.
  • Fostering patient and public involvement and, where applicable, industry-academia interactions, to deliver policy and/or commercial impact of research findings.
  • Driving the development of translational research within the school to improve patient outcomes.
  • Overseeing the supervision of high caliber doctoral and postdoctoral scholars in a supportive Departmental environment. 

Education

  • Participating in the administration and delivery of current education programmes, and teaching and assessment modalities in health psychology for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Contributing to the development and introduction of new education programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment.
  • Liaising with colleagues across RCSI’s international campuses in the facilitation of education and research activities.
  • Participating in the development of RCSI’s Teaching, Learning and Assessment Strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning.
  • Contributing to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of existing modules.
