In the rapidly evolving transportation landscape, the sustainability of transport facilities and infrastructures have gained great importance due to their significant environmental impacts. Transport hubs, including airports, train stations, and other transportation hubs, play a pivotal role in the global mobility ecosystem. These hubs are not only critical junctions for seamless travel but also substantial consumers of energy, contributing to emissions, resource utilisation, and land use. The following research objectives explore the potential of digital twins to decarbonise transport facilities and infrastructures by evaluating building energy efficiency and optimising operational practices.
The James Watt School of Engineering is looking for a Research Assistant to contribute to the research and development of the Realtime-optimisation dimension of 3D asset production on the TransiT Hub project, on behalf of the Principal Investigator (Prof. David Flynn) and Co-Investigators. This will include working closely with our industrial partners to develop a streamlined and replicable workflow for the optimisation of 3D assets, infrastructure and environments for utilisation in digital environments such as Bentley Systems iTwin, as well as Realtime XR deployment. The postholder will be expected to document and write-up the findings of this research and development work, in conjunction with project Investigators, for publication in appropriate venues.
For informal discussions about the role, please contact Professor David Flynn (David.Flynn@glasgow.ac.uk)
