Oriel College is looking to recruit a College Librarian (Maternity Cover).
This is a fixed term post until mid-May 2026. It is expected that the post will commence towards the end of April 2025.
We require a self-motivated and committed individual to ensure the efficient running of the busy Pantin Library (modern undergraduate and postgraduate collections) and to oversee project work in connection with the Senior Library.
This is an exciting time for Oriel College Library, as the college is reviewing both its physical circumstances and the use and management of that space. Additionally, the college will celebrate its 700-year anniversary in 2026, and the library will be involved in activities connected with it. The preferred candidate will need to pick up the management of several projects relating to the physical environment, stock management and events.
While the rare books and special collections of the Senior Library will remain offsite throughout the period of the appointment, there is still important work to do as part of the Project Board planning the refurbishment of the space, which will commence in late 2026 or early 2027.
The post holder will need excellent communication skills. They will lead the library team and work closely with the Fellow Librarian and the college’s Library and Archives Committee. They will liaise with readers of all levels, College staff, colleagues throughout Oxford and beyond, external contractors and members of the public.
