This post represents an exciting opportunity to join a team of academic GPs in the highly rated School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition based at the Foresterhill Campus.

Applications are invited from General Practitioners registered with the General Medical Council. This post is based in the Institute of Education in Healthcare and Medical Sciences, part of the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. The post holder will therefore be part of a team with an international reputation in medical education. Based on one of the biggest health campuses in Europe, our students benefit from a systems-based integrated approach. The role offers excellent opportunities for development of medical education skills with outstanding facilities and a supportive culture provided by the School and within the wider university setting. The Institute is proud of its position ranking Aberdeen as first in the UK to study Medicine in the Guardian League Tables of UK Medical Schools in 2024, reflecting its student-centred approach.

You will work with the General Practice and Community Medical Education (GPCME) team as a Senior Clinical Lecturer; Year 1 GP Lead. The post holder’s main responsibilities will encompass GP curriculum development for Year 1 of the MBChB course, teaching, assessment, recruitment and line management of team members, pastoral care of students and evaluation of teaching. The post holder may be required to act as a deputy for the Curriculum Year 1 Lead.

There has been a significant increase in the amount of General Practice teaching in the Curriculum and we continue to develop novel ways of delivering this and ensuring that placements and teaching are resilient. The post holder will be expected to contribute to this.

The successful candidate would be required for two sessions each week. The Year 1 GP teaching takes place on a Tuesday, which would be the most suitable day for the post holder to work. The post occasionally requires flexible working.

Applicants should be General Practitioners working in a General Practice or Community Care setting. The successful candidate should have experience teaching. Postgraduate teaching qualifications, Teaching/medical education qualifications are desirable.

Experience of teaching development and implementation would be desirable, as would a knowledge of the University of Aberdeen GP curriculum.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Clinical salary scale for GPs, 20% of £114,083 per annum, pro-rata.
