University of Cambridge - Faculty of Human, Social, and Political Science

Location: Cambridge, Hybrid
Salary: £46,485 to £58,596
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 10th February 2025
Closes: 10th March 2025
Job Ref: JB45017

The University of Cambridge is inviting applications for two Assistant Professor positions at the newly established Bennett School of Public Policy (BSPP), within the Faculty of Human, Social, and Political Science. The start date for these roles is August 2025.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the BSPP at its inception, contributing to the development of new programmes such as the M.Phil in Digital Policy and the expanded M.Phil in Public Policy, as well as a forthcoming PhD programme. The Assistant Professors will play a key role in shaping these initiatives, particularly focusing on the new M.Phil in Digital Policy and contributing to the existing, highly successful M.Phil in Public Policy.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline and, ideally, FHEA accreditation with experience in curriculum development. The University seeks scholars with an excellent record in both research and teaching across public policy areas.

Applicants from various disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged, especially those with expertise in technical and quantitative methods, digital public policy, and technological innovation.

Successful candidates will have an international reputation for research, demonstrated through a strong publication record, which may include monographs or works nearing publication.

They are expected to deliver at least 40 hours of lectures and seminars annually, supervise M.Phil dissertations, conduct small-group teaching, and undertake academic administration and examining responsibilities. The new BSPP is expected to expand significantly, with the M.Phil programmes growing to around 100 students, and a new PhD programme launching soon. The successful candidates will contribute to both teaching and research within these programmes, ensuring high standards of academic excellence. They will also participate in the administrative duties of the department.

Candidates must demonstrate evidence of internationally recognised research, a willingness to collaborate within the BSPP, and flexibility in teaching and administrative tasks. To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, teaching statement, research statement, two recent research articles (if available), and a CV listing qualifications and publications.

The deadline for applications is midnight (GMT) on the specified date, with interviews expected to occur in the specified month. The University actively promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion, particularly encouraging candidates from BAME backgrounds to apply, as they are currently under-represented at this level in the department.

Further information about the BSPP can be found online. Applications should be made via the University's recruitment system, with three referees required. For inquiries, applicants should contact Sarah Rosella at the provided email address.
