The Role
The Research Centre of Computational Science & Mathematical Modelling applies and develops methodologies in computational science to tackle real world problems. We seek to address challenges of the AI revolution such as explainability & interpretability, privacy protection, robustness and governance. The centre represents Coventry University with the Alan Turing Institute in the new Turing University Network, allowing staff access to the wider UK Data Science and AI ecosystem. We value problem-led research experience, technical expertise, and programming skills, but also seek individuals with a commitment to open science, a willingness to collaborate and work on trans-disciplinary projects.
This role with a 60% research activity and 40% teaching contribution, will support a new collaboration between Coventry University and the Communications University of China. You will be based at our Coventry campus but will be required to travel to our campus in Hainan, China twice a year for a period of 8 weeks each trip to deliver teaching within the areas of data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning (experience of teaching other aspects for computer science is welcome) along with content development and teaching administration.
In return you will get the opportunity to pursue intellectual interests in an active and engaging research environment and work across disciplines with other research centres. You will receive support with research funding bids and have access to internal funding schemes for PhD scholarships and research pump-priming. You will have access to high-performance computing facilities in our dedicated research centre, along with support from the Enterprise and Innovation Office who can support you to perform consultancy, contract research and other partnership opportunities in the industry.
Qualifications Required
A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science or a related field.
Our Successful Candidate
You will bring exciting ideas for future research projects aligned with the existing areas of work in the centre. You will have a track record of securing funding to support your research and producing high quality publications and research outputs. You will work to build a research group in your field, providing supervision to Postgraduate Research students and postdoctoral researchers.
You will have at least two full years of classroom teaching experience, including creation of teaching and assessment content. You will be committed to providing high quality teaching onsite in Hainan, China.
