The Department's Schofield Centre is located on the Department's West Cambridge site. The main focus of the work is the creation and maintenance of research equipment for the physical modelling of geotechnical processes. Research is active on the construction of tunnels, pipelines, foundations and underground structures, and on the mitigation of risks such as earthquakes, landslides, flooding and the spread of contaminants. In particular, the Schofield Centre houses the Philip Turner Beam Centrifuge and a smaller minidrum centrifuge. These high-profile model testing facilities attract a steady flow of international visitors and collaborations, as well as providing the main engine through which the Geotechnical Group can command a research grant turnover. Other aspects of work at the Schofield Centre include fundamental mechanics of soils to encompass applications such as construction processes, infrastructure, environmental engineering, petroleum engineering, sustainability and earthquakes, and the calibration of instruments for field monitoring.
We are seeking a Centre Coordinator to assist the Director of the Schofield Centre to ensure that the Centre runs efficiently by managing a wide range of duties including:
You will be educated to degree level /Level 6 vocational qualification or have an equivalent level of practical experience. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team and also provide clear leadership when necessary. You will have experience of developing/reviewing administrative processes and systems, which includes budget management, as well as previous office and facilities management experience. Well-developed IT skills are an essential requirement for this role and knowledge of the University's financial management and procurement systems would be desirable.
Limited funding: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
