About the Role

The post holder strategically leads all aspects of the university’s library services across a variety of physical and virtual environments. They ensure the delivery of excellent, customer focused services to all members of the University.

They work alongside other Queen Mary leaders, developing strategies in a rapidly changing environment. Key areas of focus include scholarly communication, trans-national education, civic engagement, and the provision of academic and information literacy skills.

As a member of the Student Experience Senior Leadership Team, the post holder contributes to the strategic leadership of the Student Experience Directorate and plays a key role in implementing the Directorate’s strategy, working collaboratively with colleagues across the Directorate.

The post holder plays an active role in the leadership of the wider academic library community and represents Queen Mary on relevant national and regional bodies. 

60% of working hours will require work onsite and 40% can be hybrid working.

The post holder is a change agent, challenging the status quo and leading changes in people management, service delivery and technology that anticipate future developments in higher education.

They have an innovative approach to developing inspirational library services of the highest quality, helpful, knowledgeable and confident staff, the use of a range of technologies and a consultative and collegiate relationship with service users.

About the Department

Library Services is a major part of the Student Experience Directorate, with libraries and study spaces located at three of Queen Mary’s campuses, responsibility for the University archives, and with a strong online presence.

Library Services is rapidly evolving and building a culture of diversity, service excellence and continuous improvement commensurate with the vision and mission of an ambitious University which excels in teaching, learning and research, while retaining strong links to the local community in the East End of London.
