An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate for an EPSRC-funded project to work with Professor Mark Searcey and Professor Maria O’Connell to develop new approaches to potential anti-inflammatory agents. You will have experience at the chemistry/biology interface, having carried out a PhD in medicinal chemistry or chemical biology. You should have organic synthetic skills that are complemented by some experience of biological assay development and, potentially, have experience in or a desire to learn cell biology techniques.

The project will focus on the design and synthesis of molecules to inhibit protein-protein interactions and will involve both solid and solution phase chemical synthesis, alongside protein expression, assay development and cell culture based studies of the resulting compounds. You will join a thriving research laboratory, well equipped for the research project. The School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology is a new School formed from the merger of Pharmacy and Chemistry and is developing a strong research environment that stretches across from studies in basic pharmacology through to the physical chemistry of light. You will be part of the research team that covers Medicinal and Organic Chemistry in the School.

You will be provided with academic and pastoral support within the School (including guidance on career opportunities) and training and development activities will be available. These will be designed to develop your competencies and ability to take on a wider range of responsibilities.

This full-time post is available from 1 June 2025 on a fixed term basis for three years.
