About the role:

Applications are invited for a Research Associate with teaching duties within the Statistics section of the Department of Mathematics. The role will directly support and report to the Head of Department, Professor Axel Gandy. The post will be fixed term for 24 months and provides an excellent opportunity for research and teaching within the internationally renowned Department of Mathematics.

What you would be doing:

You will conduct original research within the Statistics Section in collaboration with the Head of Department. Additionally, you will be required to teach up to one 30-hour module per year on undergraduate and master level programmes. You will also carry out personal tutoring and project supervision work within the Department of Mathematics.

What we are looking for:

Some of the key essential experience, specific skills, and personal attributes that we are looking for:

  • A PhD in Statistics or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
  • Extensive experience developing statistical method in collaborative scientific setting
  • A good publication record
  • Clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research
  • Extensive experience developing statistical method in collaborative scientific setting
  • Ability to contribute to the research profile of the Department.
  • Ability to develop novel research outputs
  • Ability to motivate mathematics students in the study of statistics.
  • Ability to direct the work of a small research team and motivate others to produce a high standard of work
