We are looking for a dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of a safe and supportive learning and working environment. Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, you will provide expert advice, help implement safety initiatives, and support compliance across the University. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing expert health and safety advice to staff and students.
  • Supporting the maintenance of the University’s Safety Management System.
  • Delivering engaging health and safety training across the institution.
  • Investigating incidents and accidents, identifying root causes, and recommending preventative measures.
  • Conducting risk assessments and workplace safety inspections.
  • Collaborating with managers across departments to embed a strong safety culture.

What we’re looking for:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent qualification in health and safety. 
  • Proven experience providing health and safety guidance, preferably within an education sector setting. 
  • Strong knowledge of COSHH, risk assessment, and workplace safety. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Confidence in delivering training and presentations. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic safety management systems. 
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to health and safety challenges. 
  • A professional membership with IOSH, IRSM, or equivalent would be advantageous, as would experience in Higher Education.
