Research Assistant x 3 (Fixed Term)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for three Research Assistants to join Dr Kyle Treiber and a team of senior researchers in the Institute of Criminology to work on the third phase of the Peterborough Adolescent to Adult Development Study (PADS+). This ESRC funded longitudinal study has followed a random sample of over 700 participants from one age cohort in Peterborough, UK, through adolescence and into young adulthood. In Phase 3 the team will interview participants at age 35 (adulthood) to see where their diverse lives have led them in the 10 years since they were last interviewed.

The study will explore adult social relationships and experiences across family, school, neighbourhood and peer contexts to understand how experiences in adolescence and young adulthood are linked to outcomes later in life, including crime in adulthood. The study will also apply findings from all three Phases of PADS+ to developing guidance for crime prevention policy and practice.

As a Research Assistant on this study, you will play a key part in the data collection, work collaboratively with the research team to continually ensure high data quality consistent with previous and supportive of future data collection, and assist with the preparation of data and findings for publication.

Applicants should hold a good first degree and ideally have a postgraduate qualification (or be graduating soon) in a relevant subject such as criminology, psychology, sociology or another social science subject. To excel in this position, you will need experience of conducting structured interviews or survey research and working with quantitative data. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential as you will need tact and diplomacy when interacting with study participants, as well as practitioners with whom the study will partner, and when working as a research team. Flexibility will be required during the data collection as interviews will take place at times to suit participants, and travel, primarily to Peterborough, will be required for some in-person interviews.
