Location: Guildford
Salary: £46,735 to £55,755 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 4th February 2025
Closes: 2nd March 2025
Job Ref: 005925

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research. We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world.

Currently, one of our most exciting projects is the launch of our new Medical School: an enthusiastic and creative team of medical educators are working within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to develop a new School of Medicine. Our innovative programme aims to produce a new type of doctor - excellent and holistic clinical leaders who can drive change, delivering integrated and modern healthcare for their patients and communities. Our innovative four-year course provides the academic, clinical and professional requirements needed for our students to go on and succeed as foundation doctors and beyond.

We are looking for a Lecturer in Medical Education to join the School at this exciting time.

The role

The successful candidate will focus on delivering high-quality teaching to our graduate entry students over the four-year program: this will include biomedical science, physiology, clinical medicine, communication skills, and clinical specialty and skills teaching (as per expertise).

You will support students in small and large group teaching (including team and case-based learning) and will contribute to clinical and communication skills sessions and simulation-based teaching. We would also expect you to contribute to our admissions process, to standard setting, to writing knowledge tests and OSCEs, and to supporting OSCE examining.

About you

To join our School, you’ll need to be a forward-looking individual with the ambition to drive innovation in medical education. You’ll have full registration with the GMC, a higher professional qualification (usually a doctoral degree or equivalent), and are likely to hold a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy or Academy of Medical Educators.

In addition to these qualifications, you’ll have experience of providing high quality teaching and will have good knowledge of medical education principles and practices (including course accreditation, quality assurance processes, and knowledge of the professional requirements of the GMC). You’ll also have a significant academic publication record and evidence of scholarly contributions to conferences, professional meetings, and societies. Finally, as an excellent communicator, you’ll have the ability to use tact, diplomacy, and empathy to build effective working relationships at all levels.

What we can offer

The University of Surrey is a top UK University set in a beautiful campus in Guildford half an hour’s journey from the centre of London. In addition to competitive salary, we offer a vibrant and forward-thinking working environment, childcare assistance, first-class sports and leisure facilities and access to a variety of staff development opportunities to help you fulfil your potential.

Further Information

To apply for this role, please upload your CV and a cover letter detailing how you meet the requirements of the role.

Remote interviews will be held via Teams on Tuesday 18th March.
