Do you have an Architectural Degree and are interested in the sustainable intervention of built heritage at risk? Are you curious about how digital recording technologies can enhance our critical approaches towards it, especially in the context of disasters? Then this PhD opportunity might be for you.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and resourceful PhD student, to contribute to the generation of new knowledge on the topic. 

This exciting opportunity is based within the Architecture, Culture and Tectonics Research Group, Department of Architecture and Built Environment, at the Faculty of Engineering, which conducts cutting-edge research on built heritage documentation and conservation using advanced recording technologies in seismic areas of Chile and India, among other interesting topics. 

You will have the opportunity to experience a great research environment, with several ongoing international research projects and state-of-the-art equipment and software, including 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry, available for you to carry out your studies. 

You will work with me and a member of our research group, (i.e. Laura Hanks or Jonathan Hale) to be proposed by you and who is aligned with your PhD research proposal, in the programme of Architecture Design (Social Science). 

Deadline: 11.59 pm on the 16^th of February 2025. Late proposals for this funding will not be considered. 

Requisites: 1^st or a 2:1 in Architecture (or equivalent) and an English qualification of 6.5 in IELTS (no less than 6.0 in each element). Other requirements are listed in the programme description. 

What is funded: Excellent candidates may be eligible for partial or full scholarship. Starting date will be no later than 1st October 2025.

Potential candidates will be invited for an interview in the week commencing February 17th, 2025 (online or in person depending on the candidate’s location).

• PhD proposal, including literature review, aims, methodology, and potential case studies, clearly indicating the gap of knowledge you aim to research. No more than 1500 words, excluding references and footnotes.

• Portfolio, up to 20 pages, mainly images and representation, no more than 1000 words in total.
• One previous publication (only if available, which can be an article or written work you are proud of).
