About the role:
Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in lithium-ion battery modelling with a focus on continuum-scale degradation and safety physics, as part of the Faraday Institution Multi-Scale Modelling project at Imperial College London.
What you would be doing:
You will be integrating knowledge and building models on coupled battery degradation mechanisms (e.g. solid-electrolyte interphase growth, particle cracking, volume expansion, lithium plating and solvent consumption) with safety physics towards improved understanding of how degradation pathways impact battery safety. This will be done collaboratively with other modellers on the open-source Python Battery Mathematical Modelling tool (PyBaMM)(https://pybamm.org/) towards integrating coupled lifetime-safety physics and towards the development of diagnostic approaches for assessing cell safety.
You will be working within the Electrochemical Science and Engineering group at Imperial College London (www.imperial.ac.uk/electrochem-sci-eng/) under the supervision of Dr. Billy Wu (https://profiles.imperial.ac.uk/billy.wu) in the Dyson School of Design Engineering (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/design-engineering/). Furthermore, you will work with collaborators in the Faraday Institution Multi-Scale Modelling project (https://batterymodel.co.uk/) and potentially other Faraday Institution projects/industry collaborators.
