Assurance and Compliance Associate (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge - Cambridge Research Office

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £34,866 to £45,163
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 3rd February 2025
Closes: 26th February 2025
Job Ref: EW44538

An exciting opportunity has arisen to shape the University's approach to research funding assurance. Reporting to the IRFA Oversight Group and the Assistant Director of Assurance, Risk, and Compliance, you will be part of the University's strategic approach to improving our approach to funding assurance and risk management to ensure research funding is managed in line with policy, legislative, and contractual obligations.

In this role, you will lead a control mapping exercise, assessing and improving the University's processes to mitigate risks effectively. You'll support the development of a control and risk register, manage audit findings, oversee the implementation of agreed actions, and will prepare regular updates for senior stakeholders across the University's leadership. Additionally, you will assist in the design of an integrated Research and Finance framework, ensuring compliance with funder terms and safeguarding the University's financial integrity.

Collaboration is key, as you'll work across institutions and central teams in the Unified Administrative Services, supporting institutions in assessing their control environments and contributing to the transformation programmes, such as Transforming Research Support and Financial Transformation.

The Research Office is part of the Unified Administrative Service and is responsible for the central administration and for taking a strategic role in the oversight and development of all aspects of the University's research activities. The post holder will be a member of the Research Office's Assurance, Risk and Compliance function, which is charged with ensuring that the University has adequate and effective controls in place to discharge our compliance obligations and provide assurance to the central University while ensuring our controls and governance is designed and fit for purpose for the future of the University's systems and processes.

We are looking for an experienced professional with a background in compliance, risk and governance and an interest in policy and procedure, with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. The post is offered for 24 months in the first instance, but with the scope for an extension should the funds be available.

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows, with the majority of time spent on-site. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Sebastian Ashenden-Field (sebastian.ashenden-field@admin.cam.ac.uk).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
