The Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Reading welcomes applications for a permanent Teaching and Research position in Sociology.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual with demonstrable potential to produce exciting, innovative, and methodologically rigorous research within Sociology and to deliver inspiring and engaging teaching.

The successful candidate will have an innovative and ambitious research agenda in Sociology and will demonstrate the ability to produce high-quality research outputs capable of contributing to a strong REF (Research Excellence Framework) return. We welcome applications from candidates whose research expertise falls into a wide variety of areas including (but not limited to): migration, gender, race and ethnicity, social class, social inequalities, social identities, education, family life, the welfare state, and social policy.

Candidates must have teaching experience in Sociology and be capable of developing and delivering core modules on UG Sociology programmes (such as Sociological Thinking, Sociological Theory, and Research Methods) and of offering optional modules within their specialist area.

Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to student support, recruitment, and general administrative duties within the department. They must be a team player, taking an active role in relation to the Sociology degrees as well as being able to contribute to the intellectual life of the department more broadly.
