We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Laboratory Technician to join our research programme investigating the causes and mechanisms of human immune deficiency. The technician will join the Intrepid (Integrative Translational Research in Primary Immune Deficiency) project, which was established to refine and enhance the use of whole genome sequencing both as a diagnostic tool in the clinic, and to advance understanding of the genetics of primary immune deficiency. Intrepid is funded by a Wellcome Trust Collaborative Award.
The appointed technician will be based in the Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease and be supervised by one or more of the Intrepid Principal Investigators.
The successful candidate must hold a degree in a related biological sciences discipline, as well as laboratory experience in molecular biology and/or immunology. The post-holder will primarily engage in experiments to characterize the function of genetic variants identified through whole genome sequencing, which may contribute to immune diseases. A strong foundation in molecular biology techniques, including cloning and gene expression in cell lines, is essential. Additionally, proficiency in analyzing these variants using flow cytometry and Western blotting is required. The role may also involve employing CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to manipulate specific genetic variants and assess their effects on immune response.
Candidates should also demonstrate evidence of being able to effectively troubleshoot research problems and adapt research protocols. A meticulous and orderly approach to laboratory work, excellent organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently, are essential. We are looking for a colleague who excels in a multidisciplinary team environment and is committed to working collaboratively to achieve the experimental objectives of the project.
