Associate Lecturer - Hairdressing

About the role:

We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer in Hairdressing to join our Hair and Beauty department at The Bedford College group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Preparing, delivering, assessing and verifying on a range of hairdressing programmes.
  • Supporting and guiding students to achieve success and realise their potential.
  • Managing students’ learning and provide a high-quality learning experience.
  • Teaching effectively on a range of Hairdressing programmes, levels and qualification types recognising and meeting students’ individual needs.
  • Following schemes of work which are up to date and fully meet the requirements of awarding bodies.
  • Researching, developing and effectively implementing new learning materials in a variety of media to engage students in learning.
  • Assessing students’ work effectively to meet awarding body standards and carry out verification and moderation.
  • Meeting assessment deadlines as set by the awarding body and the college.
  • Monitoring and recording students’ progress and taking action to ensure students meet required standards and deadlines.
  • Participating in effective internal verification and other quality procedures.
  • Carrying out reviews (both individual and group where required) to support individual students to realise their potential.
  • Maintaining records on students’ progress and performance, communicating in a timely manner to the Course Manager where there are issues / concerns.
  • Extending the students’ learning experience through developing and implementing appropriate vocational opportunities e.g. links with employers, work experience.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in subject specialism and share expertise and resources with colleagues.
  • Being responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and for raising any concerns in line with college procedures.
  • Being responsible for promoting equality and diversity in line with college procedures.
  • Being responsible for following health and safety requirements in line with college policy and procedures.
  • Participating proactively in training and development including qualification development required in the job role.

About you:

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in Hairdressing
  • Be willing to work towards the Certificate in Education qualification if not already held
  • Have English and Mathematics or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent or willingness to achieve English and Mathematics Level 2 within one year
  • Have Assessor qualifications D32, D33 or TAQA 3
  • Be currently working or have worked within the Hairdressing industry
  • Have evidence of high performance in previous roles/jobs
  • Have knowledge of the current developments in own specialist area.
  • Possess the ability to make a positive contribution to the team, valuing and respecting others’ expertise and contribution
  • Possess the ability to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and work effectively to deadlines
  • Possess the ability to monitor and track students’ progress
  • Possess the ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • Be willing to continuously to update skills and knowledge
  • Be flexible approach to work and working times
