The North East has a rich and underexplored LGBTQIA+ cultural history. Applications are invited for a Collaborative Doctoral Award studentship, funded by Northern Bridge and based at Newcastle University and Tyne and Wear Archives, which will build on existing partnerships between Newcastle University, Tyne and Wear Archives, and other regional cultural organisations including Curious Arts to:
Through archival, desk- and practice-based research the researcher will contribute new insights and critical reflections to regional and national work that aims to enhance understanding of, and improve practice relating to, queer content in and engagement with archives.
The project will ask:
Using a variety of methods, the doctoral researcher will be supported to address these research questions by the supervisory team of Kate Chedgzoy and Fiona Anderson, academics at Newcastle University; Lizzy Baker, Archives Lead at Tyne & Wear Archives; and Rachael Lennon, Co-Director of the Centre for Heritage at Newcastle University and Chair of the Queer Heritage and Collections Network.
