The role

In support of the University’s Vision and Strategy, and the Campus Division’s strategic framework, the role holder will:

  • Strategically manage, the University’s lighting including compliance, energy saving, smart technology and long-term planning of upgrades.
  • Work across the sustainability, smart tech, asset maintenance and building services teams
  • Be responsible for developing the University’s 10 year lighting plan to ensure legal compliance, compliance with 2023 RoHS directive and cost & energy use reduction.

This role has fixed funding for 2 years.

What will you be doing?

  • Survey lighting systems across the estate to make sure the University’s infrastructure is safe, legally compliant, and fit for purpose.  
  • Ensure prioritisation of actions to continue to de-risk our lighting stock (emergency lighting, corridor and staircases lighting systems, fluorescent replacement etc)
  • Collaborate with maintenance, compliance and other teams and lead on the initiation, viability, options appraisal, programming and costing of emergent capital lighting projects.
  • Deliver capital funded lighting projects
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and investigate methods for cost and carbon reduction in line with targets set by the University
  • Ensure prioritisation of actions to continue to de-risk our lighting stock (emergency lighting, corridor and staircases lighting systems, fluorescent replacement etc)
  • Keep abreast of all legislation updates and changes relating to areas of responsibility, which will need to reflect in our codes of practice, policies and procedures. Advise and update senior staff on changes and implications.

You should apply if

  • You are passionate about innovation, lighting technology and sustainability
  • You are an experienced M&E professional.
  • You have relevant qualifications: ideally a lighting diploma or equivalent qualification in relevant technical field.
  • Proven experience in lighting projects, changing from fluorescent to LED at pace.
  • You have strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently and diplomatically engage with staff, colleagues, and clients.
  • Project Management: Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Manage expectations and project requirements from inception through to completion.
