Postdoctoral Scientist - Neurobiology - Dr Ingo Greger - LMB 2553

MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology

Fixed term, 3 years

MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in Dr. Ingo Greger’s laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Cambridge. The research focuses on the organisation of synaptic AMPA glutamate receptors, using one of three approaches: structural biology (cryo-EM/cryo-ET), cell biology, or electrophysiology.

The successful candidate will investigate the molecular basis of synaptic transmission, focusing on AMPA glutamate receptors structures and organisation at synapses, the angstrom and nanoscales. This project builds on our recent structural and functional studies (Herguedas et al., Science 2016, 2019; Zhang et al., Nature 2021, 2023; Watson et al., Nat Comms. 2021; Ivica et al., Nat Struct Mol Biol. 2024; Greger et al., Neuron 2017; Stockwell et al., Bioessays 2024).

The role involves independent work and collaboration with Labs at LMB and with AstraZeneca. There will be ample opportunity to learn new techniques and refine existing ones.

The ideal candidate should have a PhD (or due to complete in 6 months) and experience with protein biochemistry and structural biology. Evidence of strong experimental skills is strongly desirable as well as creativity to solve problems.
