The Opportunity:

Clinical Research Fellow in Type 1 Diabetes investigating a drug therapy aimed at counteracting hypoglycaemia.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Research Fellow to join our team, exploring a drug therapy aimed at counteracting hypoglycaemia and improving the quality of life for individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). This exciting opportunity involves conducting a clinical trial investigating a supplement already in use for other indications in humans, which has recently demonstrated potential to mitigate hypoglycaemia in T1D. The successful candidate will work with an experienced and supportive clinical research team at the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian, gaining valuable expertise in the field of diabetes research. The post holder will benefit from working alongside an experienced clinical trials manager and a medically qualified clinical research assistant in an MHRA accredited clinical trials unit, with regular laboratory meetings with the PI / supervisor.

The post holder is expected to hold a medical degree, be a trainee in adult or paediatric diabetes or with experience of diabetes care. It is expected that the candidate will enrol in a higher degree program (e.g., MD) as part of this role.

This role is fully funded by the Helmsley Charitable trust and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research while advancing academic and clinical training in diabetes care and research. For enquiries, please contract Shareen.Forbes@ed.ac.uk.

This post is full-time (40 hours per week) and fixed term for 30 months. The post is available until 30th June 2027.

An Honorary NHS contract will be sought for the successful post holder. You therefore must be eligible to hold an honorary contract with NHS Lothian, and must also be registered with the General Medical Council.

Salary will be determined on the basis of previous service in the NHS training grades.
