Ad Astra Fellow - Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Public Policy and Administration

University College Dublin – College of Social Sciences and Law

UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice seeks to appoint an Ad Astra Fellow in Public Policy and Administration. We welcome applicants with a PhD in public policy or a policy-focused PhD in a cognate social science discipline (e.g. social policy, sociology, political science, economics, public administration) and an excellent record of research and teaching in public policy and of policy impact activity.

We are seeking candidates who can make a significant contribution to strengthening UCD’s public policy research capacity and play a leadership role in the implementation of the Empowering Policy Excellence (EPEx) programme. Led by the UCD Geary Institute for Public Policy, EPEX aims to enable policy makers in Ireland and internationally to achieve excellence in policymaking, implementation and evaluation using an innovative combination of measures to:

  • strengthen relationships between UCD researchers and policy makers,
  • build UCD’s public policy research and impact capacity, and
  • provide public policy education programmes from micro-credential to doctoral level.

To support the implementation of EPEx we envisage that the successful candidate will lead the redesign and expansion of UCD’s successful Master of Public Policy (MPP) and contribute to the establishment of a new professional doctorate in public policy and a programme of public policy micro credentials targeting policymakers in Ireland and internationally. S/he will also contribute to the expansion public policy research and scholarly publishing output at UCD and to the suite of evidence-for-policy and policy impact maximisation initiatives planned as part of EPEX.
