About Us
The Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (ICN) is an interdisciplinary Institute where we undertake world-leading research in human mind and brain, in both health and disease. We bring together researchers from different disciplines such as psychology, neurology and anatomy, and we use a wide range of neuroscientific and behavioural methods. The ICN is based within the division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PaLS), and has active research links with many other departments and institutes across UCL, including the Institute of Neurology, the Wellcome Department of Human Neuroimaging, the UCL Institute of Mental Health and the Sainsburys Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour.
University College London (UCL), based in Bloomsbury, is a welcoming, inclusive university situated at the heart of one of the world’s greatest cities. UCL is a top-ranked university in the UK for research in psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience, audiology &; speech/language. The university hosts one of the largest concentrations of biomedical research in the world. The ICN is an integral part of UCL Neuroscience, which is one of the best neuroscience institutes in the world, ranked second in the world and first in Europe by ISI Essential Science Indicators.
About the role
We seek to appoint an internationally recognised leader in the field of cognitive neuroscience at the level of Associate Professor (Grade 9) or Professor (Grade 10). The UCL Academic Careers Framework provides detailed information regarding the criteria required to meet these two grades.
The successful applicant will play an important role in shaping the future development of the ICN and be vital to strengthening ICN’s position as a centre of excellence for research and teaching in the field. You will have an international reputation in the field, a strong track record of relevant peer-reviewed academic publications and of obtaining significant and sustained research grant funding. We seek candidates who will forge wide-ranging collaborations with the broader community of researchers at UCL and beyond. Applicants are invited to apply from across the broad field of cognitive neuroscience, in a way that will complement existing research strengths at the ICN. Candidate fields include, but are not limited to, developmental, social, clinical and affective cognitive neuroscience, and approaches with relevance for mental health (a strategic priority for the Faculty of Brain Sciences).
The post is offered full time (1.0 FTE) and is funded on an open-ended basis.
The salary for the post will be according to the non-clinical academic payscale (including London weighting of £4,613) as follows:
Associate Professor - Grade 9: £66,711 - £72,370 per annum.
Professor - Grade 10: negotiable on the professorial scale, but not less than £78,019 per annum
About you
The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant subject area. You will have an international reputation as an expert and leader in the field, plus a strong track record of significant and sustained research grant funding.
Evidence of high-quality teaching and research supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, is also essential.
