The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has an immediate vacancy in the "Feed and Feed Additives" Division of the Food Chain Safety Department:

Scientific Officer in the field of Feed Safety (F/M/D) 

The BfR independently prepares expert opinions and statements on issues of food, feed and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany on the basis of internationally recognised scientific evaluation criteria.

It advises the Federal Government and other institutions and interest groups in these areas. The BfR thus makes an important contribution to the protection of human health.

Tasks

  • Scientific assessment of health risks for humans and animals due to the presence of undesirable substances/contaminants in animal feed
  • Participation in committees in the field of feed safety
  • Conducting animal studies on the transfer of (undesirable) substances from animal feed to food of animal origin, also applying the 3R principle
  • Supporting the identification of research needs and the acquisition and realisation of research projects on feed safety issues
  • Preparation of assessment reports and publications in German and English

Your profile

  • Completed university degree (Master's degree, diploma or comparable university degree) in agricultural sciences, nutritional sciences, veterinary medicine or a comparable specialisation
  • Knowledge of animal nutrition and nutritional physiology of farm animals as well as feed science
  • Research experience (publication of own research results and ideally successful acquisition of third-party funding) and active participation in specialist conferences
  • Willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken German and English
  • Good computer skills as well as a conscientious way of working, flexibility, ability to work in a team and resilience 

Desired

  • Doctorate
  • Knowledge of the practical implementation of feeding trials
  • Knowledge of alternative methods to animal experiments in animal nutrition
  • Knowledge of national and EU legislation on food and feed safety
