The Vienna School of International Studies (Diplomatische Akademie Wien) is proposing the appointment of a Postdoctoral Fellow in European Studies for two years, starting September 2025. Upon successful evaluation in the second year, the position can be extended for another three years.
Geared towards promoting the professional development of the appointee, he/she will focus on his/her own research and do a limited amount of graduate teaching.
The successful candidate must hold – or have evidence of the imminent completion of – a doctorate in political science (or a neighbouring and related discipline). Specialization in the International Relations of the European Union (EU), including, but not limited to, its Common Foreign and Security Policy, its digital foreign policy, as well as its relations with other international institutions and regions. A record of research achievement at the international level, a strong agenda for future research and previous teaching experience – preferably at graduate level – are essential.
The Vienna School of International Studies is a professional school, specialized in the interdisciplinary education of graduate students, and an associate member of APSIA. The presence of international organizations in Vienna makes for excellent research opportunities, in particular for research dealing with diplomacy, governance and multilateralism broadly defined.

Depending on seniority and experience, the postdoctoral fellow will be offered a yearly salary (before taxes and social security contribution) between EUR 49.000 and 53.000.
