Library and Learning Resources are looking to appoint a highly motivated, collaborative and service-orientated individual as e-Resources and Serials Team Leader to join our newly formed Content and Open Research team. 

The Content and Open Research team play a critical role in overseeing the full content lifecycle of the university's learning and research materials, ensuring that collections are robust, current, and aligned with the university's academic mission. 

Their comprehensive curation and management of both print and electronic collections, from acquisitions to digital access, combined with strategic guidance and budget planning, positions them as a key resource for enhancing the academic and student experience.

In this role, you will lead our e-Resources and Serials team, responsible for managing the life cycle of e-resources and serials from selection to licensing negotiation, subscription, activation for access and discovery and analysis of usage data to support evidence-based decision making. The role plays a key role in our delivering our ‘digital first’ approach to the acquisition of learning and teaching resources.

Key responsibilities include

  • Supervising and developing the functional areas of e-resources and serials management.
  • Oversee relevant operational budgets ensuring that funds are effectively allocated and spend is maintained within agreed budgets.
  • Establish relationships with vendors, publishers, and consortia in order to proactively address ordering, access, payment and performance issues.
  • Negotiate licence agreements and contract renewals with both internal and external stakeholders and maintain an overview of all e-resource licences.
  • Lead on training and development of workflow, policies, procedures and documentation for e-Resource management processes and systems.
  • Identify, evaluate and stay current with emerging trends, resources, practices and standards of relevant subject fields and marketplace to enhance access and discovery of library collections and support scholarly communication.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so, and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
